SANTA CLARITA LIVING
Your weekend in the valley · from Michelle and Jon Dubner
This is one of those Santa Clarita weekends when there is more than one reason to get out. The city’s State of the City lands at The Rink on Thursday, Halloween family plans are already starting to stack up, and fall outings are still very much in season. Jon and I checked the official dates, times and links for this issue. Things can still shift, so click through before you head out. Here is the fun-first list for October 22 through 28. |

 | This weekend's fun-first shortlist Halloween fun, a city milestone, and family plans that feel like fall Choose from Tricks and Treats at Six Flags, the city’s State of the City at The Rink, a floating pumpkin patch, a family festival, or a scenic vineyard hayride. |

The Weekend Wow State of the City takes over The Rink |
The City of Santa Clarita says its 2026 State of the City will be held Thursday, October 22 at 3:00 p.m. at The Rink Sports Pavilion. That makes this an easy one to keep on your radar if you like being part of a first look at a new public space. It is a practical add to the week because it gives you the city’s big-picture update in the same place families are already starting to visit for skating and play. The tradeoff is that it is a daytime civic event, not an after-dinner outing, so it works best if you can slip away for the afternoon. Use the official City link for the time and location. |

Our Two Picks Two very Santa Clarita ways to spend the weekend |
| Michelle's Pick Hayrides at Agua Dulce Winery A scenic hayride through the vineyard is the kind of fall outing that feels easy to say yes to. The official event page says there are photo opportunities and family-friendly dates on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25. |
 | Jon's Pick Tricks and Treats at Six Flags This is the easiest big crowd-pleaser of the week: daytime Halloween fun, rides, costumes for kids, and a built-in reason to turn an ordinary Saturday into an outing. The tradeoff is simple — it is busy, so going early matters. |

Quick Weekend Picks Pick the mood, then make the plan | Big family outing: Tricks and Treats at Six Flags | | City day: State of the City at The Rink | | Fresh-air goal: A scenic hayride at Agua Dulce Winery | | Community day: Family fun at Funadoo Fall Festival | | Halloween night-out: Floating Pumpkin Patch at the Aquatic Center |
Where to Go The Rink is worth seeing in person |
The new Sports Pavilion is the kind of place that adds something concrete to Santa Clarita’s calendar: a real public gathering spot where skating, sports and spectator seating all share the same roof. That matters because it gives families a new indoor option that is active without being complicated. Use the official city announcement for the October 22 State of the City time and place. |
What to Do Choose a fall day in the canyon |
The winery’s hayrides through the vineyard are an easy yes if you want a fall outing that feels seasonal without requiring a whole day. The official listing says the dates repeat on October 24, 25 and 31, which gives you a little flexibility. It is the sort of plan that protects your weekend from feeling overplanned. If you want one scenic thing to do, this is a good place to start. |

Local Spotlight A Halloween outing that actually feels like a local night out The Floating Pumpkin Patch at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center gives families a very Santa Clarita version of Halloween: a pool, a pumpkin, a costume contest and lawn games in one place. Because it is free, it adds value without asking you to spend a full day — and the food donation request is a small tradeoff that helps local families. |

The official page describes it as a daytime Halloween event for all ages with a Trick or Treat Trail for kids 13 and under, seasonal entertainment and family rides. See the official event details → |
